Beech forests, karst caves and ridge-top pastures in the Greater Fatra Range, Slovakia
Beech forest covers 90% of this range of the Outer Western Carpathians, broken by ridge-top cattle pastures that date back to the 15th–17th centuries. Granite, slate, limestone and dolomite give it both gentle ridges and rough rocky terrain.
