About this site

A guide to the national parks of Europe in the spirit of the old park stamp albums: one page per park, a map, and a passport that fills with stamps as you visit. It covers 500 national parks in 40 countries.

Which parks are included

The list starts from Wikidata: every item recorded as a national park in geographic Europe (no Greenland, only the European parts of Türkiye and Russia, no Caucasus countries; Crimea is listed under Ukraine). We then review it by hand: 52 items were left out (city parks, duplicates, management zones, dissolved parks, doubtful entries) and 6 parks were added that Wikidata does not type as national parks (the Estonian parks).

"National park" means different things in different countries. Many are large, mostly wild areas (IUCN category II); in the United Kingdom most are lived-in landscapes with villages and farms (category V). We include every officially designated national park and show its IUCN category on the park page.

Texts

Park facts come from Wikidata (CC0). Park descriptions, sights, activities and the other park texts are written with AI from the Wikipedia and Wikivoyage articles about each park (in other languages where no English article exists), under strict rules: only facts from those sources, no invented details, no advertising language. The few parks without a description show these facts only.

Because they are derived from Wikipedia and Wikivoyage, these texts are available under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 licence, with attribution to the Wikipedia and Wikivoyage authors of the articles about each park.

Pictures

Park photos come from Wikimedia Commons; photographers and licences are listed on the photo credits page. Badges and poster illustrations are AI-generated (ChatGPT image models) and drawn into their frames by this site.

Maps

Map data and park outlines © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License; outlines assembled with polygons.openstreetmap.fr.
