Šumava National Park

Spruce forest, raised peat bogs and glacial lakes on the borders with Germany and Austria

Šumava protects a mosaic of raised peat bogs on broad plateaux, glacial lakes and remnants of primeval forest. Little-inhabited since most of its German-speaking residents were expelled after World War II, it lies within the most extensive forest in Central Europe.
