Sounio National Park

Coastal cliffs, Aleppo pine forest and an ancient temple in south-eastern Attica

The park ends at Cape Sounio, a promontory that drops sheer to the sea and carries the remains of a temple of Poseidon and ancient fortifications. Behind it, the largest Aleppo pine forest in eastern Attica covers land of Mediterranean scrub.
