Orlovskoye Polesye National Park

Southern Russian taiga forests, peat lakes and bison in Oryol Oblast

Deciduous and coniferous woods alternate with forest-steppes, and many of the few dozen lakes lie in old peat workings, so their water is often transparent black. Wisents have been brought here since 1996, and taiga birds live alongside steppe marmots.
