Indre Wijdefjorden National Park
Europe's only High Arctic steppe beside Svalbard's longest fjord, on Spitsbergen
Steep fjord walls on both sides of the inner Wijdefjorden carry High Arctic steppe, found in Europe only here, with grasses growing on dry, basic earth. The fjord ends at the glacier Mittag-Lefflerbreen, beyond a cold-water basin 250 metres deep.
