Garajonay National Park

Laurel rainforest and eroded volcanic rocks on the island of La Gomera

Garajonay protects Canarian laurisilva, a humid subtropical forest that in the Tertiary covered almost all of Southern Europe, on the top of La Gomera. Massive rocks, former volcanoes carved by erosion, rise among its valleys and slopes.

1Alto de GarajonayThe island's highest point at 1,487 m, with views to Teide, El Hierro and La Palma.
2El CedroDense laurel forest reached by a water tunnel, with the only all-year waterfall on La Gomera.
3La FortalezaA rock outcrop once held sacred by the native islanders and used as a refuge.
