Danube-Auen National Park
Floodplain forests, meadows and wetlands along the Danube east of Vienna
One of the largest remaining Danube floodplains in Middle Europe, the park follows the river downstream of Vienna through lowland forests, meadows and wetlands. It exists because thousands of people occupied the Hainburg wetlands in 1984 to stop a hydroelectric power plant.
