Białowieża National Park

Europe's last temperate primaeval forest and its free-living bison in eastern Poland

Białowieża National Park protects the best preserved part of Białowieża Forest, where large amounts of dead wood accumulate over hundreds of years and support mushrooms and shrubs that rely on decaying matter. It is home to the world's largest population of European bison (żubr).
