Belovezhskaya Pushcha National Park

Primeval lowland forest with bison on Belarus's border with Poland

The park protects the Belarusian part of Białowieża Forest, a piece of the last primeval fragment of the woodland that once stretched across the European Plain. It shelters a large population of European bison, the continent's heaviest land animals, and ancient oaks thought to be over 450 years old.
